Infosys to set up four mobile medical laboratories in rural Karnataka

‘Lab Built on Wheels’ consists of a medical unit, a minimal invasive emergency care unit, and a pharmacy

Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic and corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of IT giant Infosys has announced the launch of four mobile laboratories, called ‘Lab Built on Wheels’.

According to the regulatory filing released by the IT company on 06 June, Infosys Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rotary Trust – Rotary Bangalore Southwest Charitable Trust alongside a grant worth USD 514,724 for the development of mobile medical laboratories.

Together, Infosys Foundation and the Rotary Trust delivered the mobile laboratories to the Karnataka government.

The ‘Lab Built on Wheels’ concept intends to offer a suite of affordable diagnostic solutions and inhibit the spread of communicable diseases, mainly across the rural population of Karnataka.

Speaking on the latest launch, Infosys Executive VP, Krish Shankar, who serves as the Group HR Head of Infosys and Trustee at Infosys Foundation mentioned that the launch of 4 mobile med labs aligns with the company’s longstanding efforts to address the underprivileged people of India.

Shankar added that the primary objective of such developments is to provide on-time access to clean, affordable, hygienic, and relevant medical care and treatment to the needful.

It has been reported that the inclusive mobile laboratories are each equipped with a minimal invasive emergency care unit, pharmacy, and a medical unit.

For the effective deployment, Rotary Trust teamed up with Saicorp Health Technologies (SHTPL), for setting up the ‘Lab Built on Wheels’ in compliance with the BSL level two safety standards.
